Robinsons Acquire new superstore

May 15 2009

Robinsons have acquired the former Southern Co-operative furnishings store comprising 21,000 sq ft on Winklebury Way, just a few minutes’ drive from the M3 motorway. It will become the second-largest equestrian store in the UK, with only the Robinson’s flagship Ashton Superstore slightly larger.

The latest acquisition follows the opening of Robinsons’ second retail warehouse at Wyrley Brook Retail Park, Cannock, in September 2008. Opening is scheduled for early 2010.

“When we opened the Cannock store in 2008, we said we would like to repeat the exercise as quickly as possible. With the experience we gained in developing a new store in a different part of the country, we felt confident we could do it all again – on a bigger scale. As long as we can maintain the performance we’re capable of, we’ll keep looking to expand further across the UK,” comments Jim Bentham, Managing Director of Robinsons.

Southern Co-operative was advised by Smith Price and Myddleton & Major.
